Executive Director of Berries Australia
Berries Australia was set up in November 2018 to promote the interests of the strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and blackberry industries. With a combined worth of $1.4 billion/annum they represent the single largest fresh produce category in Australian supermarkets.
As part of her former role as Growcom Chief Advocate, Rachel provided significant support to the Queensland strawberry industry during the needle tampering crisis and was a key conduit between industry and government. The lessons learnt from the needle tampering crisis enabled Berries Australia to quickly swing into action when Covid-19 hit to provide a range of support mechanisms for growers.
The Berries Australia Covid-19 response was recognised in the 2020 SafeWork NSW Awards. Rachel holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts (journalism) from the University of Queensland and is fascinated by the interplay between risk and perception of risk in the food safety sphere.
